Our School

Washington Elementary is located in the heart of Greensboro, has a rich legacy, and currently serves student in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

Washington Street School was established in 1915 as one of the first schools for African American children built in Greensboro, and is named in honor of Booker Taliaferro Washington. The school building originally housed students in the first through twelfth grades and several years later, the school was renamed Washington Elementary School and began serving first through fifth grade students; From 1989-1992, Washington went through another change as it became Washington School of Math, Science and Technology. 1989 was the same year Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes were added. During the 2007-2008 school year Washington became a Montessori magnet school, and continued to offer the Montessori program through the 2023- 2024 school year.
